Can you drive around Vail Pass?

Vail is right on Interstate 70, so you’ll be traveling on well-maintained roads. Yes, You can drive around Vail Pass and the only problems would be if there is a storm or if there has just been a storm and the roads are slick.
I’ve driven in the mountains when I-70 was completely iced over. I wasn’t driving, but it scared me. You might want to consider snow tires.

Driving From Denver to Vail

Driving from Denver to Vail can be very unfaithful, especially in the winter. When driving to Vail from Denver people have to worry about the first hill origin, Floyd Hill, about 25 min into the drive.

Next people go up to the Eisenhower tunnel which is usually o.k. getting up to that point (over 11,000 ft) but once one gets to the other side of the tunnel which is just over 1.6 mi long, the hill going down into the town of Silverthorne 9.2 mi, with a couple of runaway truck ramps (a steep hill for cars).

Next people have to get up to Vail Pass which is close to 11,000 ft going up isn’t too bad but going down into the town of Vail is a steep descent 14.8 miles and very steep.

Driving from Vail to Denver is equally as disloyal

Weather is always a big factor in how false that drive is. Snow can make the drive extremely unfaithful to just even rain or light rain. Vehicles can easily aircraft with the rain and any but if freezing temps, (doesn’t take much to have freezing temps up there) and participation (very common up there), I 70 can get very slick.

One has to watch out for all of the other drivers, especially the ones who are not used to mountain driving, and the cocky drivers who tend to speed.

This stretch both to Vail from Denver and vice versa, can be a nail-biter of a drive. Plus it’s a long drive (97 miles). For me, a big cup of coffee is mandatory when driving that stretch.
