In the “English tea Time” Term, There are 3 types of concepts that exist. Elevenses which served around 11 A.M., Afternoon Tea Time occurs between 3 and 4 PM, and high Tea for lower classes.
Everyone has heard about Afternoon Tea, High Tea, or someone called Elevenses. But which term is correct? In this guide, I’ll provide a short introduction to the three English tea times.
Elevenses.
Elevenses is a surprise tea served around 11 A.M. It’s a late morning work break that includes a light snack, such as muffins, scones, or biscuits. – and a hot tea or coffee.
Afternoon Tea
In the early 1800s, people called afternoon tea a bridge between lunch and dinner. Afternoon tea time occurs between 3 to 4 PM. Afternoon Tea originated as a “bridge” between the light lunches and late dinners served in the early 1800s. Afternoon Tea usually occurs between 3 and 4 pm. It’s an elaborate affair. They serve finger sandwiches, an array of scones, cakes, macaroons, and other nibbles. Napkins in your lab and mind your manners!
High Tea
High Tea Contrary to its name, the lower classes were the ones who first enjoyed high tea. In the wake of industrialization, employers in Britain forced workers to put off tea time until after work. Most of the time, this hot, large dinner was served after work along with a pot of strong tea.
The term “high tea” may have originated to distinguish it from traditional afternoon tea. They serve the traditional tea on cozy, low seats. Workers would have post-work tea at the table, sitting on high-back dining chairs.
